Group 1: A Showcase of Senior Talent
In Group 1, senior athletes dominated the scene. Jon Popovich of Pompton Lakes pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out seven batters and bringing his career total to an impressive 96. Meanwhile, Xavier Andujar of Cedar Grove had a monster game, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, just shy of a cycle. Tommy Conroy of Point Pleasant Beach also had a stellar performance, batting 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and then providing two scoreless relief innings. Lastly, Chase Harding of Woodstown, batting ninth, delivered a solo home run to secure his team's eighth sectional title.
Group 2: Walk-Offs and Shutouts
Group 2 witnessed some dramatic moments. Roberto Cotes of Ramsey hit the walk-off RBI single in the ninth inning, a hard-hit grounder that redirected off the pitcher's glove, allowing his team to claim their first section title in four years. Liam Costello of West Morris, who tossed a shutout with 10 strikeouts, also had a brilliant day at the plate, racking up five RBIs. In the Central section, Reid Bazydlo of Gov. Livingston kept his team's three-peat dreams alive with a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh.
Group 3: Home Run Heroes
Group 3 featured some power-hitting performances. Anthony Onnembo of Old Tappan laced three hits and registered two RBIs, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Brayden Fry of Cranford slugged two homers, one of which was a three-run blast that sealed the sectional title. Brody Moore of Brick Memorial continued his legendary run, firing a complete-game shutout and helping himself at the dish with two RBIs. Ryan Looby of Delsea, who had wrist surgery in February, made a remarkable comeback, belting his first career home run to help his team advance.
Group 4: Balanced Brilliance
Group 4 saw a mix of hitting and pitching prowess. Kotaro Kim of Ridgewood went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, including a game-changing three-run homer. Jake Dolan of Ridge did it all, batting 1-for-3 with an RBI and a triple, and picking up the win in relief. Jack Edwards of Hunterdon Central led his team to victory with a complete-game performance, surrendering just one run. Tyler Rodgers of Kingsway, a Charleston Southern commit, struck out nine and walked three, showcasing his dominance on the mound.
