M62 'Blocked' Live Updates: Three-Vehicle Crash and Fire Causes Major Disruption
Emergency services are currently responding to a critical incident on the M62 eastbound carriageway near Junction 9 in Warrington. A three-vehicle crash has resulted in a vehicle fire, causing significant delays and road closures.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Services reported that one of the vehicles involved caught fire. Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, utilized a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze. The motorway was temporarily closed in both directions while the fire was under control.
The westbound side of the motorway reopened shortly before 4 p.m., allowing traffic to resume. Ambulance crews were on-site assessing one individual involved in the collision, confirming that no one was trapped in their vehicle. However, the eastbound side of the motorway is expected to remain closed for an extended period while the aftermath of the incident is managed.
National Highways provided an update via Twitter, stating that the M62 eastbound is currently blocked at Junction 9 due to the ongoing emergency response. All emergency services and traffic officers are actively working at the scene, and further updates are anticipated.
