Jorge Martin Addresses 2027 Yamaha MotoGP Speculation
Former MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has addressed recent reports linking him to a potential move to Yamaha for the 2027 season. With his Aprilia contract set to expire at the end of 2026, Martin's future has been a topic of speculation, especially after a challenging year plagued by injuries.
Martin's relationship with Aprilia has been turbulent, with the Spaniard attempting to activate an exit clause in his contract to join Honda in 2026. Despite his commitment to the final year of his Aprilia deal, Martin's name has been at the center of the 2027 rider market rumors, particularly following the news that Fabio Quartararo has signed with Honda.
Speaking at the Sepang test, Martin acknowledged the reports, stating, 'I’ve seen it. It’s funny how early all the rumors are coming out.' He expressed his focus on the Aprilia project, emphasizing his desire to contribute to its development in the 2026 season.
Martin revealed that his doctors initially planned to delay his surgeries until the first week of 2026, but he managed to undergo the necessary procedures late last year. He shared, 'I thought Valencia was going to be the last one, and then I’d have plenty of time to recover and train.' However, he had to undergo two surgeries, one on his hand and another on his collarbone, which he found challenging.
Despite the setbacks, Martin remains determined, stating, 'I will fight with everything, and there is no option but to fight until I’m back winning.' He successfully pushed for the surgeries to be performed in 2025, aiming to close out the year and move forward with full fitness in 2026.
Martin's future plans are still uncertain, as he mentions that his team is working on it. He adds, 'I don’t really mind. The market is moving, people are moving really fast. We will see what happens in the next weeks.' The 2027 MotoGP season promises to be an exciting one, with Martin's potential move to Yamaha adding to the speculation and intrigue.
