Imagine a world where we can visually see and understand our body's stress signals, and learn to calm ourselves with a simple, handheld device. This is the vision of an innovative Israeli startup, Reflect Innovation, and their unique biofeedback device, the Reflect Orb.
Unveiling the Power of Biofeedback
The Reflect Orb is a game-changer, especially for those affected by trauma. By converting our body's subtle physiological cues into visual feedback, it empowers users to regain control over their stress levels.
But here's where it gets controversial: can a device really teach us to manage our stress and anxiety? Reflect Innovation believes so, and their journey is an inspiring one.
A Personal Mission, a Global Impact
Noga Sapir, the founder and CEO of Reflect, created this device from a place of personal experience and academic expertise. With a background in neuroscience, textile design, and a curiosity about the mind-body connection, Sapir set out to develop a tool that would help people 'hack' their nervous system and learn self-regulation.
The Reflect Orb is designed to be accessible and precise, allowing users to practice stress management independently. It's paired with a mobile app and guided psychoeducation, offering a tangible solution for those struggling with trauma, anxiety, and other psychosomatic conditions.
A Shift in Focus: October 7 and Beyond
The October 7 Hamas massacre brought a new urgency to Reflect's mission. The team realized the potential of their device to help those experiencing trauma symptoms post-attack.
"We went through a massive shift..." Sapir said, explaining how Reflect quickly adapted to meet the needs of October 7 survivors. They translated their app into Hebrew, donated devices to therapists, and formed collaborations with various organizations and institutions to support those affected.
Empowering Clinicians, Transforming Lives
Reflect has gained traction among clinicians and therapists, who have integrated the device into their practice. Sapir notes, "It was about bringing something into their toolbox... I think clinicians understood the value quickly."
The company's success is measured not just in data, but also in the personal stories of users. From a boy on the autism spectrum having good dreams with the help of the orb, to a Nova survivor finding the courage to share her story, Reflect is making a real impact.
A Global Need, an Israeli Solution
Reflect's journey highlights Israel's unique position in the world of trauma and mental health. Countries are turning to Israel for insights, recognizing the importance of building resilience in society.
"Israel is the ultimate place for creating such a solution," Gruberger said, emphasizing the country's technological prowess and, sadly, its experience with trauma.
As Reflect looks to the future, they envision their device being used in schools, clinics, and workplaces, offering a personalized approach to stress management and trauma recovery.
And this is the part most people miss: the power of innovation to transform lives, especially when it's backed by a deep understanding of human needs and a commitment to making a difference.
