Georgia Bulldogs Land In-State Breaststroke Talent Camden Cook for 2027-28 | Swim Recruiting News (2026)

Here’s a story that’s sure to make waves in the swimming world: Georgia’s own Camden Cook is set to join the Bulldogs for the 2027-28 season, and this rising star is already turning heads with his impressive breaststroke and IM skills. But here’s where it gets even more exciting—Cook isn’t just another recruit; he’s a homegrown talent with a passion for excellence both in and out of the pool. Let’s dive into the details!

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps (https://fitterandfaster.com/), the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel, knows that swimming in college is more than just a sport—it’s a dream fueled by years of hard work and dedication. They’re honored to celebrate athletes like Camden Cook and the incredible support systems that help them reach these milestones.

Camden Cook, a standout from Suwanee, Georgia, has officially announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Georgia, joining the class of 2031. In his own words, he shared with SwimSwam: ‘I am overjoyed to announce my commitment to the University of Georgia, where I’ll continue my academic and athletic journey. I’m incredibly grateful to Coach Versfeld and the entire UGA coaching staff for this opportunity. A huge shoutout to Coach Chris for pushing me to be my best every single day, Coach Wil for kickstarting my career, and my entire Swim Atlanta family. Lastly, I want to thank my friends and family for their unwavering support. This is just the beginning—Go Dawgs!’

Currently a junior at North Gwinnett High School, Cook trains year-round with SwimAtlanta, where he’s made a name for himself as a breaststroke and IM specialist. His recent achievements include a 3rd-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.19, along with impressive splits of 25.36 in the breaststroke and 21.11 in the freestyle during the 200 medley and 200 free relays. While he qualified for the 100 breast with a time of 56.42 at the Gwinnett High School Championship, a disqualification in the prelims at the state meet kept him from competing in the final—a setback that only fuels his determination.

But here’s where it gets controversial: Cook’s rapid improvement and early commitment to UGA have some wondering if he’s peaking too soon or if he still has untapped potential. What do you think? Is he the real deal, or is there room for even more growth? Let us know in the comments!**

In March, Cook showcased his versatility at SwimAtlanta’s Best of the South meet, setting personal bests in multiple events: the 100 free (47.02, 23rd place), 100 breast (55.62, 3rd), 200 breast (2:00.96, 6th), and 400 IM (4:04.20, 20th). He followed this up with updated times of 55.02 in the 100 breast at the Georgia Senior State Championship in December and 1:51.29 in the 200 IM at Winter Juniors East, proving his consistency and drive.

Cook’s long-course season was equally impressive, culminating in personal bests at the highly competitive Ocala Futures meet in 2025. He clocked times of 54.50 in the 100 free, 28.73 in the 50 breast, 1:03.28 in the 100 breast, and 2:18.02 in the 200 breast, earning 3rd place in both the 100 and 200 breast events and 5th in the 50 breast.

When Cook joins the Bulldogs in the fall of 2027, he’ll be part of a dynamic team alongside ‘Best of the Rest’ fly/free specialist Alex Goodman (https://swimswam.com/best-of-the-rest-butterflyer-alex-goodman-2027-verbally-commits-to-georgia/). He’ll also overlap with sophomore breaststroker Elliot Woodburn (https://swimswam.com/tag/elliot-woodburn/), who recently dropped a stunning 51.20 at the UGA Fall Invite—a full 1.06 seconds faster than his previous best. Additionally, he’ll have two years to train with Finn Wendland (https://swimswam.com/tag/finn-wendland/), who’s already posted a 54.29 this season.

Cook’s best short-course yard times are as follows:

  • 200 breast – 2:00.96
  • 100 breast – 55.02
  • 50 breast – 26.08
  • 200 IM – 1:51.29
