Croft's optimism is well-founded, especially after completing a rigorous pre-season alongside teammates Lachie Miller and Jake Connor, which gives him ample reason for confidence.

The Rhinos faced challenges that hindered their performance: Miller was sidelined due to injury, and Connor was not even playing in his preferred position. He had to step in as a full-back, which limited their ability to gel as a cohesive unit. However, a turning point came midway through the 2025 season when the trio began to play together more consistently, leading to a noticeable improvement in their performance.
Now, with a full pre-season of training behind them, Croft feels equipped to elevate their game. In an interview with All Out Rugby League, he reflected on their journey: "At the end of last year, we recognized that when Lachie was injured, he was training separately, while Jake was still finding his footing in the team. It wasn't until we reached the halfway mark of the season that we found our rhythm together. By the end of the year, we were hitting our stride and playing some excellent rugby. With the foundation of half a season and a comprehensive pre-season, I’m optimistic we can push our game to new heights in 2026."
Croft emphasized the importance of building teamwork and chemistry, saying, "We’ve been working hard in training, and this is the time to establish our connections on the field. Last year, we built our understanding weekly, and it progressively improved. I’m hopeful that we’ll continue that upward trajectory."
As Croft finds his rhythm with Connor, both players have significantly contributed to the team's performance, with Miller also playing a vital role in their offensive strategies. The trio has developed a comprehensive understanding of their system, allowing them the flexibility to navigate the field creatively.
"We operate as hybrid halves, which means we aren't confined to one side of the field," Croft explained. "While we have primary positions, we frequently link up in various ways. That’s crucial for us. We all strive to work together and keep possession of the ball, and coach Brad Arthur encourages this fluid style of play. The more we sync up, the more intuitive our movements become, allowing us to exploit weaknesses in opposing defenses."
He continued, "With the structures we have in place, the more we practice, the more instinctive our actions will be. I noticed this last year; we began to flow more seamlessly as we learned to anticipate each other's movements."
With a fit squad ready for action, Croft expressed eagerness to hit the field again. "We're prepared and excited to compete. I’m looking forward to getting back into games. Coach Brad has cultivated a trusting environment, infusing our training with football-specific drills rather than just mental challenges, which has been refreshing. We’re all set to go!"
For Croft, the ultimate ambition is to secure a championship with the Rhinos, a club that has become like family to him since he joined from Salford three years ago. "We demonstrated last year that we are capable of competing at a high level. Unfortunately, we faltered at a crucial moment in our final game. While we’ve moved on from that disappointment, we are determined to build on our past performance and advance further this season."
Reflecting on his experience with the Rhinos, Croft said, "I truly love playing here. There’s something special about running out in front of our fans at home; it gives me chills. The camaraderie among the players is fantastic, and the coaching staff—Brad, Grixy (Scott Grix), Langers (Jamie Langley), and Chev (Walker)—create an incredible atmosphere. I feel fortunate to call this place home."
With his contract set to expire at the end of the year, Croft recognizes the importance of having an outstanding season. However, he remains composed about his future. "Time will reveal what happens next," he remarked when asked about the possibility of extending his contract with Leeds. "I prefer to let my manager handle those discussions while I focus on performing my best on the field. That’s my priority, and I trust him to take care of the rest. I’m eagerly anticipating what 2026 holds for us!"
