The BLACKCAPS' Pace Trio Returns for the First Test: A Strong Lineup for the West Indies Series
The New Zealand cricket team, the BLACKCAPS, has announced a 14-player squad for the highly anticipated first Test against the West Indies, set to commence on December 2 at Christchurch's Hagley Oval. This lineup includes a formidable pace trio and the return of the team's all-time leading run-scorer, Kane Williamson.
The selected players are as follows:
- Pace Bowlers: Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, and Blair Tickner
- All-Rounders: Tom Latham (c), Tom Blundell (wk), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith
- Batters: Kane Williamson, Will Young
The squad also includes Daryl Mitchell, who has recovered from a minor groin injury sustained during the first ODI against the West Indies on November 16. Kyle Jamieson and Glenn Phillips were not considered for the first Test as they continue to build their match fitness.
The BLACKCAPS head coach, Rob Walter, expressed his enthusiasm for the team's return to form, particularly highlighting the contributions of Kane Williamson and the pace trio.
"Kane’s ability on the field speaks for itself, and it will be great to have his skills and leadership back in the Test group," Walter said. "He’s had a bit of time off to prepare for red-ball cricket, and I know he’s eager to play for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield."
Walter also praised the performance of Zak Foulkes, who made his Test debut in Zimbabwe earlier this year, claiming impressive match figures. He also noted the experience and talent of Jacob Duffy and Blair Tickner, who have impressed in white-ball cricket and are expected to excel in the Test arena.
The first Test will take place at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, followed by the second Test at the Cello Basin Reserve in Wellington and the third and final Test at Bay Oval in Tauranga, all in December.
